Putin's tremendous political stake in Syria
There are reports that many youth have been prevented by the governments of various nations who were trying to go to Syria to join the extreme radical group Islamic State. The tremendous conflict between the Islamic State and the army of President Bashar Al-assad continues in Syria. The way IS was growing in Syria and Iraq seemed it will very soon occupy the entire region and since one year US and European Union did nothing to stop them. They acted as preventing them and instead supplied money and weapons in the dark.
Thanks to Russia who has tried to put a check on the growing speed of IS by precise air strikes. Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Andre Kartapolov said on Saturday that we will not only continue air strikes but accelerate them also. Andre said that hideouts, ammunition and explosive material storage base, tools providing base and terrorist training centers of IS are on the target. He said that Russian planes have undertaken more than 60 operations during the continuous air strikes and have destroyed more than 40 per cent hideouts of IS. These air strikes have filled the Syrian troops with a new passion and confidence and they have become more aggressive in ground war against IS. Recently, Russia fired 26 missiles from the Caspian Sea over IS hideouts in Syria. The missiles from a ship hit the target around 1500 kms away. Russia has proved that it can't watch the show keeping a mum. Hitting missiles 1500 kms away, it has also shaken US and Europe. It is for the first time after the collapse of Soviet Union that Russia has demonstrated its military potential. It has also tried to regain its lost reputation in one stroke. Europe has been shaken by the Russian attacks. US is now openly opposing the Russian intervention. Putin exposed their double standards in such an effective way that one can understand the desperation of US.
On the other hand, Syrian President Bashar Al-assad said that Russian military intervention in the Middle East is a must for the extermination of terrorism. In an interview given to a state TV channel of Iran, President Assad said that Syria will have to join hands with Russia, Iran and Iraq to end terrorism (IS) in the region, or else the entire region will be destroyed. The success of this coalition is likely. Assad also condemned the air strikes from the US led coalition in Syria and Iraq. Amidst the growing Russian military activities in Syria, the US has cautioned Moscow not to interfere in the US led international efforts in the disturbed areas to eliminate Islamic State. White House's Press Secretary Josh Earnest told the reporters that the President Obama has made it clear that Russia should avoid the interference of the 65-member international coalition as they are strengthening the IS instead. Earnest said that the maximum Russian aerial attacks are being carried in areas where the presence of IS is less or nil.
Russia, Syria, Iran and Iraq are in one camp while the US and its NATO allies are in the other camp. Some experts also believe that situations have become more entangled after the Moscow plunged into the Syrian domestic war. Russia is tightening its grip in Syria day-by-day and the entire world community including the US, NATO remains helpless. Arguably Vladimir Putin has a comprehensive strategy over Syria. Some analysts say that in fact there is a domestic pressure behind Putin's interference in Syria, as due to reduced oil prices and sanctions against Russia after Crimea incident Moscow's financial health is not sound or Putin wants to divert the people's attention towards the growing discontent in the Ukraine. Interestingly, the Arabian countries have kept absolute silence over the Russian air strikes. The reason for their silence may be such that they may be confused, because Russia has played such a game in Syria that nobody ever imagined.
